Transport fees used to be one of the most manual parts of monthly billing. Students travel from different locations, fares differ by distance, and students start or stop using the bus during the year. With this update, Class Command handles all of it automatically.
What is new
- Monthly fare per stop – set a monthly fare on each bus stop
- Student transport assignment – assign each student to a route and stop with a start date
- Special fare – override the stop fare for individual students, such as staff wards or approved concessions
- Automatic billing – when you generate monthly fees, the transport fee is added to each assigned student's invoice
- Include or skip transport – a simple switch on the fee generation screen lets you include transport fees or leave them out for a particular run
How the fee is calculated
For each student with an active transport assignment in the billing month:
- If a special fare is set, that amount is used
- Otherwise, the monthly fare of the student's stop is used
Students without an active assignment are not charged transport.
No double charging
If a class fee structure already contains a transport fee head, Class Command skips the stop-wise transport fee for that class. This prevents parents from being charged twice while you move from a flat transport fee to stop-wise fares.
How to start
- Open the transport stops screen and set a monthly fare for each stop
- Assign students to routes and stops, either from the transport assignments screen or while enrolling or editing a student
- Open the fee generation screen, keep Include transport switched on and generate as usual
- Preview the result before confirming; transport appears as a separate line on each invoice
Why we built it
Schools told us that a flat bus fee felt unfair to families living close to school, and that adding transport amounts to invoices by hand took hours every month. Stop-wise fares solve both problems.
